Information for New Students

welcomeWe are a not for profit, volunteer based organisation offering adult classes for those interested in learning French and promoting French culture. We operate 4 terms each year roughly aligned with the NSW school holidays.

As an adult education provider we aim to make learning French fun and enjoyable. Unlike school there are no fails or penalties and you can learn at a pace that suits you. There are no exams or passes or fails. You learn and progress at a level that suits you.  Unfortunately we are unable to cater for children younger than year 11 & 12 at high school.

Most new students start in term 1 at the beginning of the year however students with some previous French experience can start in terms 2-4. Generally we discourage students starting mid-term however you're welcome to email or call us to discuss your particular needs. Students with little or no previous French experience are strongly recommended to start in the Beginners class at the start of term 1 as it can be very difficult to join this class in later terms.

We also provide a number of non-class activities throughout the year such as our French Film Festival, Bastille Day Luncheon, regular coffee club meetings and trips to see live French theater.

Our French classes are at 4 levels from beginners to advanced. To find out more about the standards of each level click here. It's up to you as to which class you attend and you can move up or down a class level at any time if you find the class too easy or too challenging.

On Mondays we provide 2 hour classes for Beginners, Beginners (Year 2) and Intermediate students as well as a 1 hour conversation class for those with intermediate to advance skills.  On Wednesdays we provide 2 hour classes for Intermediate and Advanced students.

If you aren't sure you want to commit to classes you're welcome to attend your first class without obligation.  Just register (without making an EFT payment).  If you do decide to continue you can then make your payment otherwise it's free.

Classes are held at the Age Concern building (also called LiveBetter) near McDonalds Albury.  Entry is at the side of the building (not the front).  To see a map click here.

Costs for your first term are $160 for classes plus an annual membership of $25 and a text book cost of around $65. (Total $250).  Following terms would cost $160.  We offer discounts on class fees for early registration and payment (10%) and concession holders and full time students receive an additional 20% discount.  See the section on Payments and Refunds for more information.

We accept payment by credit/debit card, EFT bank transfer or with cash or cheque in person at any Hume Bank branch.  Once registered you just need to turn up to your first class.
